De-Capo’s iStandard Interview
What’s your production name and where are you from?
Our Production name is “De-Capo Music Group”. A lot of people ask what does “De-Capo” mean. It is a musical term that stands for “The Beginning”. That name caught our attention some years back when we were young boys back in high school recording with nothing but success on our minds. We believe the name fits our whole style and not just in music, but in general. We are from Buffalo, NY, but we are located in Orlando, FL now.
How would you describe your sound and or production style?
I would say that we have a very unique style. We have a very commercial sound, but it’s also different in my opinion. We have a wide range of genres that we do, from Pop, to hard heavy Hip-Hop/Rap to Smooth R&B, etc.
What do you use in the studio to create?
We use A LOT of plug-ins. We don’t have too much hardware at the moment because of the location we are at but we are constantly sampling ideas from many different keyboards and samplers. Logic and Reason are the main programs we use along with Pro Tools and Ableton Live.
Are you currently working with any new artists?
Yes we are working with many independent artists, such as Jacarri Moore, Sleek, Mike Sav, J-Redd, and TxT Luv, Just to name a few. We are currently in the process of submitting a lot of material to some major label artists. We are always looking to work with new people that’s Hot!, No matter if they are mainstream or not.
Congrats on winning the iStandard Producer Showcase in Miami. Describe the overall experience and how it feels to be recognized as someone with next level talent?
It feels very great! It was a lot of talented producers in the showcase and it is an honor for us to be recognized as the best out of the line-up of producers for that night. Hearing the rest of the material from the other producers really made us realize that there are many great producers out there and we have to put 100% and more into every single thing that we do so that our music can stick out from all the rest.
What type of advice did the judges give you? Do you feel it was accurate?
We actually did not receive any negative feedback from the judges which was very shocking! I really wanted the criticism just to see what we could approve on, but we did not get any so I guess we are doing our job! haha, but I remember J Hatch told me he wished we had hooks on our beats and I agree with him. At the time we did not have any mixed and mastered material that had just hooks on them because the contestants were not able to have words on the verses of their tracks, but we were sure the beats would speak for themselves.
What’s next on your agenda?
We just released an album independently on iTunes titled “The Beginning Of A New Era”. The record was produced, written and recorded/mixed by us. We feature many artists on the album and another producer on the album. Our main focus now is to get on some big projects and continue to make good music.
